Yoga Teacher Training
Contemporary Yoga was formed in 1997 primarily to train yoga teachers.
Since then we have trained 120 people from all walks of life to teach yoga directly or as an integrative part of their work and leisure.
We are delighted after a well needed break to offer our new Contemporary Yoga Teacher Training course.
Our course is a comprehensive eclectic and detailed study and yet retains a sense of open enquiry and a soulful attitude to the work.
Since we began these courses Yoga has become more into the mainstream, as well as being of interest to long term students of yoga the first year of the course will appeal those in different fields of caring work, for example doctors, nurses, teachers or mental health professionals such as psychologists, psychotherapists and others from the complimentary therapies .
The first year can be taken as a stand alone certificated course or as the first year of the teacher training.
The second year is particularly for those who find they want to teach yoga on a professional basis and will give all the teaching and other skills necessary.

About the Approach
The course is for people with or without experience of Yoga who wish to
deepen their understanding and learn to teach. The emphasis of this course will be on practice and the soulfulness of a deep
personal journey as well as the necessary and rewarding accumulation of
knowledge and skills.
Yoga is a fascinating
subject with its many interrelated facets and appreciation of all our human
qualities, physical, mental and spiritual. It roots are deep in our being and
its flower can be seen in our daily lives.
Yoga practice promotes stability, strength, skeletal alignment and more freedom of movement.
The
course include in-depth study and practice of the following topics:
Yoga Asanas
We cover a range of postures in depth including the benefits, safe practice
and the inner meaning of their use. For example the standing postures together with breath awareness can help with self confidence. We never use force or override the body's own intelligence.

Pranayama
We take time to slow down to listen deeply to a sense of body breath. To begin with we work with breath enquiry supported by relaxation techniques to tune in to each individuals breathing process. From this develops the full yoga breath as well as some pranayama (specific techniques)
Mantra and voice work
The study and practice of mantra to experience its effects. We also practice various means of developing
our voices both 'physically' but also to be heard 'in the world'.
Mindful Meditation
Some different approaches from yoga, buddhist and sufi traditions will be examined and practised
to discover the meaning of meditation and its relationship to the moment and the individual.
Mudras
The once secret psychophysical gestures of Yoga, which are also found in
other traditions. We practice and learn some of these during the course.
Relaxation
The learning and practice of extended periods of deep rest, which is perhaps,
the most effective forms of natural healing. We will also include some restorative yoga movements this is where the body is supported while resting in the posture. This is particularly useful in stress related conditions such as panic attacks.

Study
Two of the main texts of Yoga will be studied in some depth and in comparison
to contemporary psychological understanding in a spirit of enquiry.
Teaching Methodology (second year)
Teaching yoga is a particular skill which is part of a general teaching methodology. Students will learn the necessary and unique skills for teaching yoga from beginners onwards.
Ritual
A study of the history and purpose of ritual including archetypes. We will
also examine the importance of developing our own rituals for the transitions
in our lives.
Anatomy and Physiology
The course begins in the ground of the body and the body systems. The yoga practice is informed by the natural movement and impulses of every part of the body. Detailed study of living anatomy and physiology is important in maintaining health.
Chakras
Most of us have at least heard of the Chakras these days. We will be looking at them in a comprehensive way to explore their possible relevance to us no.
Yoga movement
This is a body mind movement practice, where we explore the edge between yoga and movement. This practice is a combination of yoga sequences of movement, somatic guidance and relaxation.
Business study
When we start to teach we are starting a small business. We include a module on ethical business practice.
Fun
If it doesn't make you laugh, it isn't Yoga.
