About the Approach
The teacher training course is for people with experience of Yoga who wish to deepen their understanding and learn to teach. Contemporary Yoga is rooted in the tradition of Yoga and allows free exploration of what might emerge in the freshness of the moment.
The emphasis of this course will be on practice and the soulfulness of a deep personal journey as well as the necessary and rewarding accumulation of knowledge and skills.
Yoga is a fascinating subject with its many interrelated facets and appreciation of all our human qualities, physical, mental and spiritual. It roots are deep in our being and its flower can be seen in our daily lives.
Yoga was originally taught on a one to one basis over a long period. This form is now rarely possible, however the aim of this course will be to grow both as individuals and together as a group and then to apply what we learn.
The essence of Yoga is about the revelation of what is called our 'true nature' or universal consciousness and we hear that even a glimpse of that can be transformative. The question in all such ventures as this is to find out through our own experience if what we hear is true or not. So it will be in the spirit of adventure, experiment and delight, and maybe with a little nervousness, that we set on this course together.
The journey is part of the mighty one that we travel, which is to find and celebrate who we really are; paradoxically the journey is the destination.
One of the principals of this course is to follow intuitively, freely and creatively the path of the unique 'being' of this group which is formed by the equal presence of each person.

Chakras
Nearly everyone has heard of the Chakras nowadays, we shall look at the origins of the system and its relevance and application to contemporary life in an experiential and thorough way. The map of the Chakras forms the basis of the first year of training.
Meditation
Different approaches from various traditions will be examined and practised to discover the meaning of meditation and its relationship to the moment.
Mudras
The once secret psychophysical gestures of Yoga, which are also found in other traditions. We practice and learn some of these during the course.

The learning and practice of extended periods of deep rest, which is perhaps, the most effective forms of natural healing.
Conversation and enquiry
Listening both to ourselves and to each other is vital to the process of learning and assimilation as a means to development and teaching skills

Yoga and other disciplines and traditions
A comprehensive look at how modern techniques and disciplines have grown out of Yoga and other traditions and how they relate to each other.

It is important to understand the process of the group in working as a facilitator. Time will be given to our own process within the group as well as knowledge of group dynamics.

The art of teaching yoga
Teaching Yoga requires particular skills and qualities. In the second year of the course we look at teaching methodologies as applied to teaching Yoga. This will include lesson and course planning.
Business Studies
These days to teach Yoga in the west means to start a small business; we take time to look at what this means both ethically and pragmatically.

We have a module on the course of this topic which includes language and appropriate assistance and modifications for people with disabilities.
First Aid
It is necessary to have a first aid certificate to obtain the diploma
